Dispensary

Our qualified staff run a well-stocked dispensary, providing medication at the time of consultation and operating a repeat prescription service including an automatic repeat prescription service if eligible.  We are able to dispense to you if you live more than 1 mile from a chemist.  Please allow at least 4 working days for repeat prescriptions to be prepared as some medications may need to be ordered in.

Our dispensers will advise on prescription exemption, pre-payment certificates, medication disposal and try to provide any other help you may require.

Please allow 4 full working days (not including weekends or bank holidays) between ordering and collecting repeat prescriptions.

How to order your medication

If your long-term medication has been approved on a repeat prescription basis you can place orders in a number of ways:

  • In person – use the right hand side of your previous prescription and mark the items you require.  There is a letter-box to the left of the main entrance where you can post your request.
  • By post – send it to us and address your letter to ‘Repeat Prescriptions’ at the practice address.
  • Online – follow the link at the top of this page.  You will need to register for this service via Reception, please bring some form of photo ID with you.  If you are unable to provide photo ID please speak to Reception
  • Via the NHS App
  • Via your Pharmacist – if you go to the same pharmacist all the time, he or she will be able to order your medication for you.

PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT ACCEPT REPEAT PRESCRIPTION REQUESTS OVER THE TELEPHONE.

If you require urgent medication please ring reception during surgery hours. The dispenser will speak to the duty doctor on your behalf to arrange for your medication to be dispensed as soon as possible.

If you have a query regarding your medication please telephone between 1.00 – 2.00pm.

If the surgery is closed, please ring the out of hours service on 111 who will advise you about your medication.

Charges

For each prescribed item there is a charge of £9.90 on behalf of the NHS. Many people are exempt from these charges, for example those over age 60 and those under 16 years (18 or under if in full time education) and people in receipt of certain benefits.  If you think that you are exempt please let our dispensary staff know when you collect and they can advise.

The cost of a prescription pre payment certificate (PCC) is £31.25 for a three month certificate and the cost of an annual certificate is £111.60.

PCCs offer savings for those needing four or more items a month or 12 or more items in a year.

Prescription charges will rise from 1st May 2024. Each prescribed item will cost £9.90. A three month pre payment certificate will rise to £32.05, a 12 month certificate will be £114.50.  The HRT pre payment certificate will be £19.80
